Basketball

Basketball is one of the biggest sports at Aquinas and is offered in Terms 2 and 3. Games are played either at the Mercury Arena, Baypark or QEYC, Memorial Park.

Premier Senior Girls and Boys teams and Junior A Girls and Junior A Boys leagues are played on Wednesdays. All other Year 9-13 teams play on Fridays. All Year 7 and 8 teams play on Mondays.

Information

Trainings

Will be decided by team managers and typically commence at the start of Term 2. During the school term, practices are generally held in the Aquinas Gymnasium either before or after school, or at lunchtime.

Competitions

Weekly competitions are organised by the Tauranga City Basketball Association (TCBA) and run during Terms 2 and 3. Venues and times will change from week to week.

You can access the draw each week on the TCBA website by clicking the Competitions tab and then the applicable age group.

NZSS 3×3 Basketball Championships (Years 11 to 13) – March
NZSS Basketball Premiership and Nationals (Years 11 to 13) – August and September
AIMS GAMES (Years 7 and 8) – September

Uniform

Players will be issued with a basketball uniform for the season. Players are required to have their own mouth guard and covered shoes.

Registration and Fees

Registrations for the winter season will open mid Term 1. Fees are charged per player and will be set once subcriptions have been released from TCBA. As a guide, basketball fees in 2024 were between $170-$200 for the season, depending on the division the team played in.
