It is important to note that many of the individual codes have strict qualifying criteria (BMX, Canoe Slalom, Golf, Squash, Tennis and Yachting). Students will only be entered if there are able to meet the criteria as specified by the NZ AIMS GAMES Committee.

Students will be limited to competing in ONE Team sporting code and ONE Individual sporting code over the week of competition. Students may apply to the Aquinas AIMS GAMES Committee if they wish to compete in more codes on the understanding that no timetable allowances will be made. Students will only be accepted if they are able to display appropriate commitment levels to all sports leading up to the event and during the week of competition.

Entry and Trials

Participation in the AIMS GAMES is made at the discretion of the AIMS Management Committee which consists of the Principal, Director of Sport, Sports Co-ordinator, Teacher in Charge of School Events and Teachers in Charge of Sports Codes within Aquinas.

Participation in the AIMS tournament will be based on the combination of:

• Historical performance of the team/individual
• Current performance of the team/individual
• Team strength based on availability of students and Coaching Staff
  It is at the discretion of each sport as to whether trials will be held or not. Students and parents will be advised of these dates.

Commitment and Trainings

All students who are selected into a sports team to compete in the AIMS GAMES will be required to have a strong level of commitment to attend all trainings held and compete in warm up competitions in the lead up to the competition.

Trainings will be confirmed once teams are announced but students should expect to attend at least one training session over the course of each week. These sessions may be held before school, at lunchtimes or after school.

Any students who do not display the appropriate levels of commitment may be removed from the team after a verbal warning and a phone call home to parents/caregivers.

Entry Fees

For sport specific entry fees, please refer to the event website www.nzaimsgames.co.nz. Some team sports have an additional fee if the team is unable to provide an Umpire/Referee.
Other fees associated with the AIMS GAMES may include:

• Pre-Season competitions- Where possible, each team will be encouraged to participate in pre-season games. Games that are organised with other schools will not generally incur a cost however tournaments may. The entry fee for an organised tournament may be up to $30.00 per competition.
• Uniform- In most sports students will be provided with uniforms to compete in. There may be Sports that students are required to provide their own sports socks.

Parent/Caregiver Expectations

Parents/Caregivers will be expected to support Aquinas College by making it a priority for students to attend trainings for the AIMS GAMES. Please support Coaches and Managers by encouraging students to attend on time and ready to train. If students are unable to attend practices, they must contact the Coach prior.

Aquinas College will have a number of staff involved during this week of competition. Each sport will however require parental assistance to support the athletes in various roles including Coach, Manager and Umpire/Referee. Sports that are likely to have a small number of participants will rely more heavily on parent involvement.

It may also be necessary for Parents/Caregivers to assist with scoring at some sports over the week. If you are attending games, please offer your assistance to the Coach and Manager of your child’s team as it will be greatly appreciated.

Parents/Caregivers will be responsible for organising transport for students over the week of competition. We highly recommend carpooling with other students in the same teams over the week.
