Strong Performances By AC Equestrians

Aquinas equestrians have been delivering some rock-solid performances lately, led by Year 11’s Summah Lee who scored bronze at NZ’s prestigious Horse of the Year competition.

She placed third in her show hunter equitation class, a technical form of showjumping where the rider’s skills are also judged. The result promotes Summah into NZ’s top 10 riders for this event.

Summah entered eight classes aboard her pony, Vegas, scoring high placings in almost all. Horse of the Year (HOY), held at Hastings last month, is NZ’s premier equestrian contest and the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere.

Summah also notched up wins or top five places at several other events in the lead-up to HOY. She leaves Aquinas this term to start homeschooling and dedicate more time to riding – with the goal of eventually competing overseas.

Year 10 rider, Macy Brick, is also in top form. She placed fifth in one showjumping class and sixth in another at last week’s 2024 Pegasus Cup. The event at Takapoto Estate last week drew riders from 53 secondary schools. Macy topped the results of AC’s four-girl team which included Summah, Sophie Harrison (Yr 10) and Tori Cousins (Yr 12).
