Aquinas lifesavers are riding a wave of success after winning an outstanding 21 medals at the 2024 Oceans junior championships. Two students walked away with a handful of medals each, demonstrating their prowess against NZ’s top lifesavers.
Indie Scholes (Yr 10) dominated on sand and in the surf to win six medals (four golds, a silver and a bronze). Year 8’s Max Page was also in top form, scoring five medals (two golds, three silvers) at last month’s four-day contest. Held at Mount Maunganui, Oceans is the biggest junior life-saving carnival in NZ – featuring more than 700 competitors from 44 surf clubs. This year is the 24th anniversary of the annual U14 event.
Charlotte Devoy (Yr 10) won a gold and two silver, Rylee Jury (Yr 7) three bronze, and Willow Ropati (Yr 7) two silver. Mia Fitzgerald (Yr 8), Mila Kennedy (Yr 8) and Ivy Barrett-Hodgson (Yr 10) each won bronze. Sienna Ropati (Yr 10), Cora Barrett-Hodgson (Yr 9), Emma Page (Yr 10), William Magill (Yr 8) and George McKinnon (Yr 7) also took part. Fantastic results, well done all.
