Basketball Boys Finish 3rd at Northern Champs

Our premier boys’ 3×3 basketball team has secured a spot at nationals following its sensational third-place finish at the Northern Champs in Auckland last night. The lads qualify for nationals as one of the top 12 boys’ teams!

At the Secondary School 3×3 Northern Champs this week, the team won an impressive 10 of 11 pool games. It disposed of Westlake Boys in the quarter-final but had a semi-final loss to Rotorua Boys in overtime, before rallying to beat Mount Albert Grammer 22-12 last night for the bronze medal spot!

They now head to nationals in Wellington on April 13. Huge congratulations to the whole team: Mike Wade (captain), CJ Flavell, Ky-Mani Kaumoana, Yam Tabudlong (all Yr 12) and Dan Day (Yr 13). Special thanks to coach Alex Stojkovic for taking time away from Whai Basketball to be with the team.

It’s been a successful road to nationals for the lads, who finished second in the BOP Secondary Schools Baywide 3×3 Champs this month. They won all their games but were again pipped in overtime by Rotorua Boys.

Aquinas’ other 3×3 teams also had a strong showing at the BOPSS Champs:

AC premier girls (elite grade) – placed third

AC junior girls (division 2) – placed third

AC senior boys (division 1) – placed fifth

AC junior boys Rua team (division 2) – placed third

AC junior boys Tahi team (division 2) – placed fourth (lost to Rua)

Congratulations to all our 3×3 teams for their impressive results! Ka mau te wehi!
