Kia ora tātou whānau, Term 1 is off to a blistering start! This morning we officially welcomed almost 200 new students and five staff into the Aquinas family with our traditional school powhiri.
They were called onto the school wharenui by teacher Trudie Ririnui for the powhiri led by Tuwharetoa Hapi, Aquinas’ Pou Ārahi Mātauranga Māori, and Māori-Pasifika Kaiarahi Mikaere Smith. Mr Dalton then officially welcomed the group before Year 7 students were split into Mentor classes to begin their Aquinas journey.
Parents joined staff and members of the Senior Leadership Team for morning tea after which the school gathered for a special mass led by Bishop Laurenson to consecrate Aquinas’ new altar and lectern (separate post to follow). Here are a few photos of the welcome…
