Aquinas Athletes Take On NZ’s Best

Aquinas athletes put up a valiant performance when they took on the nation’s best at the 2023 NZ Secondary Schools Track, Field & Road Race Championships amid tough weather conditions in Christchurch last weekend.

Holly Fausett (Yr 11), Max Stringer (Yr 13), Kaitlyn Black (Yr 11), and brothers Vaughan, Hamish and Callum Murray (Yrs 9, 12 and 13) were among the 1,100 athletes from 200 schools taking part in the 50th annual track event. Impressively, each athlete made the finals of their events, an astounding result.

Many of our athletes were the youngest competitors in their multi-year age categories.

Vaughan finished seventh in the 800-metre race and ninth in the 1500m, Callum placed 13th in the 1500m, and Hamish was fourth in the 800-metre and 12th in the 1500m.

Aquinas speedster Kaitlyn placed fifth in the 200-metre and sixth in the 100-metre sprint. Holly was sixth in the 800-metre and seventh in the 400-metre race.

An awesome effort from all our athletes in some very testing conditions. AC Pride is riding high on our achievements!
