Thrilling news whānau, Aquinas has two more NZ representatives! Middle-distance speedsters Holly Fausett and Hamish Murray have been selected for the NZ team competing at the 2024 Oceania Athletics Champs in Fiji this June.
Holly takes to the track in the U18 women’s 400m and 800m events, and Hamish the U18 men’s 800m and 1500m. It will be Holly’s first time pulling on the silver fern, but not for Hamish. He is set to represent NZ at the Australian Junior (U18) Track and Field Champs in Adelaide this month.
Hamish and Holly’s inclusion comes after stellar performances at the recent NZ athletic champs. Holly won the U18 women’s 800m race and was second in the 400m. Hamish won silver in the national U18 men’s 800m and clocked the fifth-fastest 800m at last month’s Sir Graeme Douglas International meet.
Hamish’s brother, Callum, a 2023 AC alumni, could also compete for NZ in Fiji. He has been named a non-travelling reserve for NZ’s senior men’s squad. The NZ team comprises 121 athletes including senior competitors such as 100m star Zoe Hobbs.
Tau Ke – awesome result for years of hard mahi Holly and Hamish!
