Yr 7 and 8 Update August 2018

Term Three started with the Yr. 7 and 8 Student Led Conferences. Thanks to the many parents who attended. During these conferences information on the academic progress of students was handed out. With National Standards no longer a requirement, we are now measuring students against the curriculum levels.

Students within the Year 7 and 8 Department have also been extremely busy over the first few weeks of this term. We have had a number of students taking part in extra exams, including the ICAS Maths and Australian Maths competition.

We have had the pleasure of hosting two student groups from China visiting our classrooms. Each Year 7 and 8 class had 2 or 3 students over three weeks. This has been a great opportunity for our students to learn about another culture and to help our visitors to learn about the Kiwi lifestyle.

Other highlights from the beginning of this term are listed below.

  • On the 13th August we had a group of Year 7 and 8 dancers attend dance workshops and perform at Baycourt. The group was expertly choreographed by the talented Esther Barry (Yr. 12) & Emma McDonnell (Yr. 13).
  • Congratulations to Brayden Stowers who was selected for Bay of Plenty Roller Mills rugby team. The team takes part in the Annual Northern Roller Mills Tournament 9-14 October.
  • Congratulations to Briar Davie has been selected to attend the 2019 Under 14 Girl’s Basketball Pacific Koru Tour to Australia.
  • Ella Hill had a fantastic day representing Aquinas College at the Bay of Plenty Inter-School Squash Tournament. Ella came 3rd place for Yr. 7 and 8 Girls. There were 32 students representing their schools.
  • A group of just under 30 students got muddy, wet and cold at the Rotorua Tough Guy / Tough Girl Challenge. The 3 km course was filled with mud, steep tracks and plenty of obstacles. Our students certainly had a great time.

Director of Curriculum Yr. 7 and 8
