AC YES Company Kati Waeroa celebrate success at YE Awards Night
Aquinas College had one company invited to the Young Enterprise Awards night at Base Station Tauranga. Year 13 Business Studies students Laura Smith (CEO), Arthurlina Bibi and Hannah Audas pitched their product to a live audience.
For their efforts, Kati Waeroa won the Runners Up Award for their product a plant-based mosquito repellent. The repellent contains oil from the endemic Kawa Kawa plant, which was traditionally used by Maori to repel mosquitos. The students were able to express their culture and leverage this point of difference into their brand marketing to create a unique story for their product. Laura Smith also picked up the Entrepreneur of the Year Award; reward for her sustained effort over the nine-month YES journey.
Students undertaking the Young Enterprise Challenge are required to form a company and create a sustainable and innovative product with expert consultation. Students are required to submit evidence against five challenges including a minimal viable product, dragons den pitch, promotional and selling evidence and an annual review.
Winning two awards was reflection of the hard work and attention to detail of Aquinas Business students
