Creative Problem Solvers Required
Calling all Aquinas students with an innovative idea… We are seeking student entries into the Young Innovator Awards (YiA!) that propose new ways to tackle real-world problems. Up for grabs are some hefty cash prizes and the chance to continue Aquinas’ successful YiA! Winning streak.
YiA! Is a school competition to encourage creative thinking for the next generation. Any student from Y7-13 can enter their idea for an innovative product or service. Your ideas can win up to $2,000, plus the chance to develop your idea with leading businesses.
Registrations close July 1. Students need to outline their possible solution for a real-world problem and complete a worksheet to explain their idea. Students can enter individually or as a team of up to five members. Aside from some great monetary prizes and trophies, there are also some amazing internship opportunities.
Aquinas has a long history of excelling at YiA! Past ideas include Isla Martin and Nina Young’s winning idea for a product in the shape of something fun that slides over vaccination needles. Noah Ball proved successful with his idea of an app to allow cyclists to locate their nearest cycle repair stations/water sources. And Alessandro Goodin last year drew praise for his idea for an algae-based alternative to cardboard packaging.
YiA! is judged by some top NZ and international innovators from brands such as Nike, Apple, Google, NASA and Weta Workshop. Visit www.yia.co.nz” to find out more.
