The Greerton Pools were once again the venue for the junior school swimming championships held on Tuesday 13th March.
There were lots of talent and intense competition from the serious swimmers, who were vying for the individual bragging rights of calling themselves “champion.” For the less confident swimmers there was plenty to do too, with non-competitive races in freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke.
As usual there were several fun activities and of course the House Relay was eagerly anticipated. One of the highlights of the day, was having our school Sports Captain, Lauchie O’Connor, perform a 100m medley. This was a treat for us all as Lauchie is one of NZ’s top ranked swimmers in his age group and has represented NZ in both pool and surf life-saving teams. Without doubt though, the biggest cheer was reserved for the staff v student relay.
In what turned out to be an incredibly close race, the Staff nosed out Y8 with Y7 narrowly missing the silver medal. A great day was had by all. Full results are below
