Over 110 Year 10 students and 15 staff have survived a week of adventure around Rotorua.
Built into the Year 10 Camp was white water rafting, mountain biking, tramping across to Hot Water Beach on Lake Tarawera, problem solving and a number of other associated activities.
The benefits to the students who went will be far reaching: many pushed themselves harder and further than they had been before, whilst others took time to assist those less capable or able than themselves. Although for most of the time it was cloudy, quite cold and windy, the sun appeared a few times to warm us up. Staff ripped into the action and a special thanks to those who gave up family time to ensure that the “Aquinas Family” was able to enjoy such a great outdoor experience.
Hopefully around the dinner table, stories have been told “exaggerating” the highlights that each student has as a memory. Boot camp (6.45am start) will fade in time and it too will one day no doubt re-surface as a treasured component of the Y10 camp.
To those students who missed their opportunity to attend this vital part of school life, hopefully another opportunity will present itself one day for you. When it does, grab it, hold on tight and ride the Outdoor Education experience.
