Year 10 Market Day, held on June 19, was a great success and a valuable learning opportunity for our Enterprise Studies students.
Whether they walked away with a tidy profit or learned from running at a deficit, every student gained real insight into the challenges and rewards of running a small business.
Student teams competed to design, market, produce and sell a unique product. Each group took on real-world business roles — CEO, Sales, Communications, and more — and was required to add value to their product, not simply resell an existing item.
As usual, the lunchtime crowd was spoiled for choice. Bestsellers included nachos, ice cream sundaes, macaroni and cheese, sausage sizzles, baked goods, candy floss, and brownies.
Profits were subject to a five percent tax, and stall locations were auctioned in advance, simulating aspects of government intervention and resource allocation. These funds helped cover a well-earned pizza lunch for all participants. Each team also funded its own start-up costs.
Well done to all involved!
