WINTER SPORT REPORT

Rugby

The newly formed Te Taumata (Aquinas College and Te Wharekura o Mauao) Rugby Teams are having a sensational season thus far. The Te Taumata U14, U15 and U16 teams have won all of their games played, and the 1st XV have also achieved all favourable results including a close fought match against John Paul College ending in a 17 all draw. The most outstanding result to date is the Te Taumata U15 beating Te Puke High School 134 – 0 on Saturday 15 August.

Basketball

Our 14 Basketball Teams have all been enjoying the season with at least a couple of wins under each teams belt. Special well done to our Senior Boys A who have won all but two games this season.

We were also able to see fantastic results from the Baywide Junior Champs on 31 July. Our Junior Girls finished runners-up in the Elite grade, and our Junior Boys were third in the A grade. Huge thanks to super coaches Mike Rogers & Matt Adsett and to all the parents who came along to support – our kids are very fortunate!

We are waiting to hear from TCBA if there will be alternate dates for the Basketball World Cup (Y78) and Baywide Senior Champs.

Football

It has been a tough season for a few of our Football Teams. The skill of the opposition has been a tough fought battle for many weeks. However, seeing the determination of many of our students each week has been second to none. The Boys and Girls 1st XI Teams are looking forward to a 2-day tournament at the start of September.

We were also able to hold our Annual Aquinas Police vs 1st XI Football match in the first week of term. It was a spirited game held in chilly and windy conditions. Both sides used the event as solid training for their respective comps, with the game resulting in a draw! Football was the winner on the day!

The Football Prizegiving has been scheduled for Thursday 17 September. Please pop this date in your diaries.

Netball

With a delayed start to the season, our Netball teams have been ready and raring to get back courtside. After 3 weeks the Junior B Team are boasting three comfortable wins and are looking forward to getting more under their belt. With the move to Alert Level 2, Harbourside will be changing the competition format. Please keep an eye out on your emails as this information will come to you as soon as it is released.

Our Premier Netball Team is very excited to be heading to Rotorua at the start of September for the BOPSS 3 day event.

Hockey

It has been awesome using the new water turf at the Tauranga Hockey Centre this year. Aquinas Hockey is again well represented with 8 teams in the local competition. It is great to report at the end of the first round, the College 6 aside Boys Team has finished on top of the 6 aside grade. Now at Alert Level 2, we are continuing without spectators at all games.

The 1st XI Boys and Girls Teams are very excited to be heading down to Hawkes Bay at the start of September to compete at the NZSS Hockey Championships. Good luck teams!!
