On Wednesday 7th June our Year 9 Boys Cross Country team traveled to take part in the Waikato/ BOP Secondary School’s Cross Country Championships held in the Hamilton Gardens. This event brought together the best schools and athletes from our wider region. In what turned out to be a fantastic day for Aquinas, three of our boys placed in the top six over the 3 km undulating course.
Reece McCarthy finished second, Tom McCarroll third and Brayden Dew sixth. These outstanding efforts were too much for every other school and Aquinas was awarded the Championship for the three man team’s event, defeating Hamilton Boys High School and St Peters School.
The other runners representing us were Jaacob Eberlein, Fergus Glubb and Joseph Vincent. It was a shame there was no six-man team event as undoubtedly, Aquinas would have been close to winning this title also.
Thanks to Ms Dorrington who accompanied the team on the day.
