Eve Mischewski – Maori Footballer
Year 11 Eve Mischewski was selected into the inaugural Maori Football NZ U14 Girls team, “Nga Kotiro Whanapoikiri” and was named in the starting line up for the test match against the highly-rated Australian U14 Girls team. New Zealand Maori went on to win the game convincingly 4 goals to zero, with Eve playing a key role throughout.
Avalee Donovan-Trewhella – Synchronised Swimmer
Late 2019 Avalee was in the New Zealand Pikopiko Team (15 & under) that competed at the Argentina Open in Oct/Nov. The synchronised swimming team, which included eleven athletes from around New Zealand won a silver medal for their combo event and narrowly missed out on bronze for their team event. 2019 was the first year Avalee had been part of the high-performance team, and the Argentina Open was the first time she represented New Zealand internationally in the sport. Avalee has been successful in representing her country in Synchronised Swimming for 2020 in the Koru Squad (Over 15’s team).
Luca Adsett Luca has been made the Indoor NZ Cricket Under 15 team to go to Singapore.
Pateriki Paaka – National Maori Basketballer
Represented U13’s Te Maru o Mauao ki Tauranga Moana in basketball at the Maori National Basketball tournament held in Rotorua from Tuesday in January 2020. The team played a total of 5 games and finished strong, winning their last 2 games convincingly and placing 7th overall out of ten iwi. Kia kaha tama.
Pateriki Paaka – Regional IPS Touch Player
Pateriki represented BOP U14 Div 2 Tama, in touch rugby for the first time at the final Northern Junior IPS tournament held at Ray Boord Park, Rotorua in late January. During the two days of competition, temperatures reached over 30 degrees. Six close games were played over the weekend against teams from Waikato, Counties Manukau and Auckland with a very strong playoff against North Harbour. This final game went down to a draw and ?? was involved in a much-needed drop-off. “It got down to 3 players including me and we held North Harbour and I intercepted a high pass, ran a metre before throwing a long pass to my teammate. He used his height/long strides to score the winning touch down!” A solid win to the BOP U14 and awesome end to this final IPS tournament. Pateriki received the MVP trophy for the BOP U14 Div 2 boys 2019/2020.
Mel Young – Basketball Representative
Mel was selected to try out during the two days of representative trials 15th and22nd February for a place in the TCBA U13 boys team. From a total of 73 trialists, Mel was picked for the TCBA U13A boys team and is looking forward to the Easter Tournament to be held in Tauranga.
“Last year I trialled and got a call-back for the U13A team, but missed out due to size soI’m super proud this year to make the U13A boys team!”
