The Year 7/8 Swimming Championships are being held at the Greerton Aquatic Centre on Thursday 14 February 2019. It is a full day event for all Year 7/8 students.
All students are expected and encouraged to participate in the Year 7 & 8 School Swimming Sports. This year’s programme will have both competitive and non-competitive events and parents are most welcome to attend. We suggest you bring your own chair as seating is limited. There is also a Coffee Cart onsite from 9.30am to fulfill all of your caffine needs.
Students will arrive at school in their usual methods and meet in the Foyer at 8.35am when the bell goes. Rolls will be marked and students will receive information about the day here and then will be transported in buses to the Greerton Aquatic Centre. All students will arrive back to Aquinas College at 3.00pm to head home in their usual methods.
The programme will start approx. 9.00am with warm up. The first event (100m Freestyle) will be held at 9.30am. The event programme for the day can be downloaded here:
All students are expected to enter the 25m freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke. Full assistance and encouragement will be given to all students to help them complete this event.
The programme incorporates competitive swimming events interspersed with some fun relays for the non-competitive swimmers. Any students unable to get wet for genuine reasons must have a signed note from home which is to be given to their homeroom teacher.
Due to the large number of students who will be in attendance, it is essential that all students bring a water bottle to assist with hydration throughout the day. Also everyone must have a packed lunch as there will be no allowance for students to use the pool shop.
Further organization will take place in your son/daughters’ homeroom.
Any parents or caregivers who are available to assist on the day as a timekeeper will be welcomed. Please contact Caitlin Tarr at school: ctarr@aquinas.school.nz or phone: 543 2400 Ext 243.
