This is a competition for high school students in Year 11 to learn about the brain and its functions, about neuroscience research and find out about careers in neuroscience and to dispel misconceptions about neurological and mental illnesses.
Round 1 was held during Brain Awareness Week. The learning content was developed by brain science experts from the Australasian Neuroscience Society.
The cancellation of any further Rounds, due to COVID 19, discouraged many students throughout New Zealand from continuing with the extensive learning required, however, five Year 11 Aquinas students continued to work through learning modules before completing the online quiz at the end of March.
Gina Knowles and Grace Baek gained results placing them in the top 10% of the 349 students who completed Round 1. Impressively, Gina was 3rd and Grace was 6th. India Mahy also performed very well and she scored 8th in the decile. Antony Death and Sam Eastergaard also performed well.
