Student Stars Setting Records!

We’re proudly shining the spotlight on two Aquinas students who are making waves — both in water and on the record books!

🎣 Olive Armistead (Year 12) | World Game Fishing Records
Over the September holidays, Olive landed TWO new world records in the junior all-tackle length category for the International Game Fishing Association (IGFA) — both caught in the South Island:

  • Brown Trout – 63cm

  • Rainbow Trout – 68cm

These latest records bring Olive’s total to a jaw-dropping NINE world records across junior and female categories! Fishing since she was eight, Olive and her dad — also a world record holder — have travelled to some of NZ’s top freshwater spots in pursuit of their shared hobby.

🏊‍♂️ Thomas Magill (Year 11) | NZ Short Course Swimming Champs
Thomas returned from the recent Short Course Champs with three medals and two new national records:
🥇 1st – Multi-Class Men’s Open 200m Freestyle
🥇 1st – Multi-Class Men’s Open 800m Freestyle
🥈 2nd – Multi-Class Men’s Open 400m Freestyle

Thomas, competing in the S19 class, also smashed two NZ records (both his own!) in:

  • S19 U16 400m Freestyle (SC)

  • S19 Open 800m Freestyle (SC)

What an incredible effort from both students — Aquinas pride shining bright!
