About the Sport
Rowing is a competitive and challenging sport, raced on some of the most picturesque lakes in New Zealand. Commitment and respect for a demanding sport is needed. Along with rowing technique, we teach you time management, self-discipline and sports nutrition.
Rowing is offered to students Year 8 and above. Year 8 students will be focusing on building up to racing in Year 9 with reduced trainings each week. Year 9 and above students train throughout the week in preparation for Regattas over summer.
We compete in both club and secondary school regattas with our goal being to be highly competitive at the North Island Secondary School and New Zealand Secondary Schools Regattas.
The Maadi Cup is the pinnacle event for college rowing and is the largest Secondary School sporting event in New Zealand. Aquinas College has had a proud history of students representing the college at this event. Television coverage of this event has made it one of the highlights on the New Zealand sporting calendar.
