Registrations for GymSport in Term 1 will open in December and close on Monday 4 February 2019.

Tumbling/Cheer Sessions Term 4: Mondays 3:30pm to 4:45pm after school in the school gymnasium $70.00 per term. Coach Brian Armstrong from Astro Cheer. Starts Monday October 15th

Aquinas Dance Classes Term 4: Wednesdays 3:30pm to 4:30pm after school in G3 (school Drama room) $50.00 per term. Nicole Fraser aka Nikki from KJ Dance Studios and/or Thursday lunch time in G3 (school Drama room) $50.00 per term. Nicole Fraser aka Nikki from KJ Dance Studios.

The cost for the AC GymSport Club is $100.00 for any Two sessions or $120.00 for all Three sessions.

The wonderful thing about school gymsports is that everyone, no matter their skill level, can take part in the school festival competitions. So, no trials are required – just come and participate.
The only exception is for the AIMS Games. We must have enough students to make up a team to enter this competition. AIMS Games is open to Year 7 and 8 students.

ABOUT THE SPORT:

Aerobics combines strength, flexibility, fitness, dance, tricks and acrobatics. We offer this activity for Year 7-13 students. We rely on the support and contribution from parents to help guide our students. Please contact Janet if you would like to manage this group.

PRACTICES/TRAINING:

We try to arrange onsite training at Aquinas College before school or after school. Training is dependent on the availability of coaches and student numbers. The days and times are to be confirmed by the coach/manager.

There are also offsite training options at a selected provider.

COMPETITION:

  • Local Gymsports Group Performance Festivals for Years 7/8.
  • New Zealand Secondary Schools Gymsports Competitions for Years 7-13.
  • Year 7/8 students have the possibility to compete as a team at AIMS Games. This is solely dependent on student numbers. This selection will be done by the Coach / Manager.

UNIFORM:

  • Practice: T-shirt, Shorts, and Aerobic Shoes
  • Competition: To Be Advised, and an Aquinas College Tracksuit

COST:

All costs will be the responsibility of the students involved such as the:

  • Aquinas Gymsports Club yearly membership fee – $25.00
  • Training Session Fees: At school TBC. Off- site – up to the provider
  • Competition entry fees: hopefully will be covered by fundraising about $10 per code per intermediate competition, about $25 for secondary school competition
  • All transport/meals and accommodation expenses

COMPETITION:

  • 4-6 local and regional Intermediate School Gymsport Festivals for the Year 7/8.
  • 2 New Zealand Secondary Schools Gymsports Competitions for Year 7-13.
  • Year 7/8 students have the possibility to compete at AIMS.

UNIFORM:

  • Practice: T-shirt and shorts
  • Competition: Leotard (supplied), and an Aquinas College Tracksuit

Artistic gymnastics is a discipline of gymnastics in which athletes perform short routines on different apparatus. Women compete on beam, uneven bars, vault and floor. Boys compete on rings, pommel, high bar, vault, floor and parallel bars.Both WAG (Women’s Artistic Gymnastics) and MAG (Men’s Artistic Gymnastics) are offered for onsite at Aquinas College for all Year 7 – 13 students:

Onsite training will be held in the Aquinas College Gymnasium. Those training off site at other providers will be responsible for practicing their school competition routines. The Aquinas Club will endeavour to have all members train at local gym facilities a few times before their competitions.

COMPETITION:

* 4-6 local and regional Intermediate School Gymsport Festivals (Year 7/8)

* 2 New Zealand Secondary Schools Gymsports Competitions (Year 7-13)

* Year 7/8’s members, could have the possibility to compete at AIMS. This selection will be done by the Coach.

UNIFORM:

* Practice: T-shirt and shorts

* Competition: Leotard (supplied), and an Aquinas College Tracksuit

EQUIPMENT:

The school provides basic equipment which require assistance from students to set up.

COST:

All costs will be the responsibility of the students involved such as the:

  • Aquinas Gymsports Club yearly membership fee – $25.00
  • Training Session Fees: At school TBC. Off- site – up to the provider
  • Competition entry fees: hopefully will be covered by fundraising about $10 per code per intermediate competition, about $25 for secondary school competition
  • All transport/meals and accommodation expenses
  • Any other additional fees that maybe incurred.

Costs related to AIMS Games are charged separately.

To offset fees students/parents will be required to participate in fundraising activities.

Hip Hop
TERMS: 1, 2, 3

ABOUT THE SPORT:

We offer these movement/dance activities for Year 7-13 students where there is a demand or interest from the students. We rely on the support and contribution from parents to help guide our students. Please contact Janet if you would like to manage one of these groups.

PRACTICES/TRAINING:

We try to arrange onsite training at Aquinas College before school or after school. Training is dependent on the availability of coaches and student numbers. The days and times are to be confirmed by the coach/manager.

There is also an offsite training option at a selected Provider.

COMPETITION:

  • Local Gymsports Group Performance Festivals for Years 7/8.
  • New Zealand Secondary Schools Gymsports Competitions for Years 7-13.
  • Year 7/8 students have the possibility to compete as a team at AIMS Games. This is dependent on student numbers. This selection will be done by the Coach / Manager.

Jump Jam
TERMS:  1, 2, and 3,

The wonderful thing about school Gymsports is that everyone, no matter their skill level, can attend the school festival competitions. So, no trials just come and participate. The only exception is for the AIMS Games. Only those students who are in the Twisters division or above can participate at AIMS Games. Open to all year 7 – 13 students.

ABOUT THE SPORT:

Jump Jam is an aerobic program created by  World Aerobic Champion Brett Fairweather. It is specifically for primary and intermediate students and teachers.  Jump Jam is offered onsite at Aquinas College – contact Janet for more information.

SELECTION:

Students will be selected to compete at appropriate levels matching their skill sets. This selection will be done by the Coach.
