Kia ora, congratulations on a successful year in sport at Aquinas!

Aquinas College has been represented in over 30 sporting codes this year, from Aerobics to Yachting, and many BOP and Nationwide competitions including, Summer and Winter Tournament Weeks, AIMS GAMES and the Blue Light U15 Games.

Congratulations to the following students on recent achievements:

  • Congratulations to Parnell Davis, Camaron Cruickshank and Jorja Smart who competed in the Senior Level 3 at the NZ Cheer Nationals. Parnell also placed 3rd in Solo Cheer (level 3 youth). Wonderful achievement and great pay off from her 7+ hours of training each week.
  • Hannah McGregor who achieved phenomenal individual results at the NZSS Athletics Championships in Dunedin at the end of November. Hannah placed 3rd in the Shot Put and 5th in the Discus. These are great results to be so proud of.
  • And in case you missed it in November, Fergus Lellman has been selected for the Northern Districts Cricket U19 Team.

We have been able to celebrate many successes throughout the year at our assemblies and Sport Prizegiving. We would like to continue this over the Summer Holidays. If your child achieves something individually or in a team, please do let us know by filling in our Sport Achievement form.

It is also important that we take the time to thank all of our volunteers who make sport possible at Aquinas. We have many parents who are consistently volunteering time to Coach or Manage, without this support we could not offer the opportunities we are able to. Your time, energy and enthusiasm is exemplary and very much appreciated by students, staff and parents.

Aquinas College is currently boasting a 70% physical activity rate (from Y9-13), well above the 50% Bay of Plenty average. In the next year, we would like to work to see even more of our students engaged in physical activity at school. If your child is not currently engaged in regular organised physical activity we would appreciate your help by filling in this short survey with your child. We are hoping to gauge interest in what activities we can offer that would help to engage all of our students. The survey is anonymous and should take you no longer than 90 seconds.

We have enjoyed the year with our students in sport and are looking forward to seeing you all again next year out on the court, field or in the arena.

Nga mihi,

Caitlin Tarr (Sport Coordinator) and Bill Kite (Director of Sport)
