The school Sports Prize Giving was held on Wednesday 26th October in the college gymnasium. As this was the last one that Mr Terry Consedine would attend in his official capacity as Deputy Principal, he was asked to reflect on his time at Aquinas, in particular with regard to the changes he has witnessed in sport. His speech was pertinent, relevant and highlighted the terrific advancements that we have made as a school over the years.
Tracey Lambrechs, our guest speaker, spoke with great passion about her journey as a young athlete dabbling in shot put, discus and netball, through to her participation in the Rio Olympics as our only woman weight lifting contestant. Her strong message of enjoying sport and never giving up in pursuit of your dreams, was really well received by our young sports men and women.
And what a glittering array of talent and achievement was on display. The number of local, regional, North Island and New Zealand representatives that walked across the stage to receive plaudits or awards was staggering for a small co-educational catholic school.
The incredibly high percentage (71%) of our students involved with and playing sports is amazing. To all the prize winners in all of the various categories we salute you!
