Forging Friendships and Getting Active
In an inspiring display of tuakana-teina, the Y13 Sports Committee has taken to the field to build bonds between the school’s oldest and newest members. Twice a week, the committee – superbly led by Spencer Wills, Sinead Simpson, and Taylor Harris – has made lunchtime magic happen for Y7 & 8 students by initiating action games to get students mixing and moving.
Our intermediate students mostly enjoy the Y13s playing alongside them, and it’s a great sight on the school field seeing the young and old having a blast playing some of the old favourites like capture the flag, terminator, rippa rugby and kickball. As many as 100 Y7s regularly flood the field to join in. Thanks to the Y13 students for making this initiative happen, it is so loved by the younger students and we hope that this can continue in Term 2.
