Aotearoa Maori Football

On Tuesday 10 February Eve Mischewski and Callum Berntsen were selected into the National Maori Football teams!

This follows on from a successful summer where both students were picked to play for the Boys and Girls North Island U16 Maori Football teams. The North v South Maori Football Championships were held in Rotorua at the International Stadium. Congratulations to both Eve and Callum on your hard work and talent and we look forward to following your successes in the future!

New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Championships 2020

Aquinas College was able to field a small team of athletes at the New Zealand Secondary Schools National Athletics Championships held at the Tauranga Domain last year. Our athletes competed very well with the following results:

Harrison McGregor – 3rd Junior Boys Discus; Finalist Junior Boys Shot Put

Caleb Kleinsmith, Max Stringer, Chris Berger and Callum Murray – Junior Boys Relay – 4th Junior Boys 4 x 100m Relay

Callum Murray – Finalist Junior Boys 1500m

Hannah McGregor – Finalist Senior Girls Discus and Shot Put

Selections:

Well-done to Year 10 Cheerleader Parnell Davis – who has been selected in the NZ All Girls Cheerleading team. This team is based in Auckland and is made up of girls from all over New Zealand. The team trains three times a week so all members of the squad will be expected to travel to Auckland for these trainings. The team is hoping to compete in the World Cheerleading Championships in May this year and due to Covid-19 restrictions, team performances will be Live-streamed.

Congratulations to Aquinas Cricketer Year 11 Tash Wakelin (left), on her selection into the Northern Districts Under 19 Women’s team. Tash is a R/H Batsmen, R/A Bowler Fast and we are looking forward to following her career.

Aotearoa Maori Basketball National Championships

Aquinas College students Grace Kahle and Anika Hyland represented Tainui Waikato in the Girls U17 A Grade Division of the Championships in Rotorua. The team qualified for the final against Muriwhenua and played with great composure and skill to win a very hard-fought battle. Congratulations to these National Champions! Swim NZ National Open Water Championships 2021

Aidan Bollee put in a great effort in the Open Water Swim event held at Lake Taupo in January. Aidan completed the 7.5km event in 4th place in the 13-14 year age group. He then followed up with a 9K Rotoma Swim earning 1st place in his age group. On Saturday he swam the 7k coming in 2nd in the U16 age group as a 13 year old! And, as if that wasn’t enough for one weekend, Aidan took part in the round the Mount Swim on Sunday!
