Waterpolo Y7/9 North Islands 12th -15th Nov
Earlier this term the Boys team won the Bayfest Tournament with the Girls coming third in the B grade, so they were all very excited to test themselves against some of the best teams in the country at the North Islands Competition, shifted to Tauranga.
Our boys started with a loss to St Cuthbert’s after leading at half time. An intense game against Rosmini College saw them gain their first win before being beaten by eventual winners Sacred Heart on Friday morning. Friday night’s game versus Mount Maunganui College was vital to them entering the top half of the draw. A challenging match saw AC win by one. In their Saturday game, a buzzer-beater goal by Auckland Dio resulted in AC playing in the 5th/ 6th playoff where they beat Baradene College. Fifth overall, one place better than last year. The boys, throughout the tournament, showed great heart. Huge thanks to Quentin Quinn for his coaching and Lee Roper as manager.
The Girls team played all of their games at Windermere. They had some severe first-round losses versus St Thomas, MBIS and ANI before playing in the bottom half of the B grade where they had some close games against Rosmini and Auckland Dio. It was great that they picked up a 4-2 win versus Dio. The girls’ team showed plenty of spirit throughout the four days and had the best warm-up routine of any team. Thanks to manager Helen Helm and coaches Ruby Helm and Bridget Simpson
