Five girls, five boys, five days and one amazing teacher, all set out to tackle the Spirit of Adventure Trophy Voyage. In the first week of Term 4, Team AC Sharkies from Year 10 got the opportunity to go on the Spirt of Adventure. Along side three other schools and fantastic crew members, we set out to sail the Hauraki Golf. Leaving from Auckland Harbour, we made our way to Waiheke Island for one night. Then up to Sullivan’s Bay in the Mahurangi Harbour for a further two nights, followed by our last night stopover in Motuihe Island.
A focal point of each day was the 6:30am swims, which definitely woke us up with a start! A big highlight was getting to see pods of dolphins and orcas in their natural habitat. Another cool experience was doing night watch, where we had to stay up to guard the boat and to check the systems, which was a lot of responsibility. There were daily challenges where we gained points and totals were calculated on the last day – Aquinas Collage Sharkies won (by one point)!
Everyone had an incredible time, taking away new friends, skills and memories to share. We all discovered new things about our selves and others. I encourage every student to take this opportunity – take hold and conquer the challenge!
