A recent proposal has been put forward by Tauranga Council to remove most school bus services and encourage use of the extended public transport system.
Existing Aquinas bus routes are potentially being removed and replaced with Bayhopper buses. These proposed changes are significant – you are encouraged to be involved in the process to be aware of the ramifications.
Aquinas College has voiced its concerns around students catching multiple buses in terms of cost and time. Safety at bus exchanges and also at the bus organization at school at the start and end of the day is of concern.
Thanks to the parents who have signed a petition which has been submitted by our students along with parents to council. In addition, over 90 parents have forwarded submissions against the proposed changes to council . Most indicated that they will not use the buses and will choose to transport by car instead. This will lead to even more congestion on Tauranga’s roads. Further work is being done by the Board of Trustees for our local Catholic schools, including a combined meeting later this month.
