Aquinas College Rowers competed in the North Island Schools Rowing Championships at Lake Karapiro from 8 – 10 March . It was a busy 3 day regatta with nearly 2000 competitors from 105 schools.
The racing was fast and furious with all the schools putting out their fastest crews.
Aquinas managed to qualify for 7 A’ Finals and 4 B’ Finals………..a fantastic achievement from all the rowers.
The boys’ crews of Callum Tutbury, Anton Bernard, Scott Clarke and Nathaniel Barry had several close A’ Finals. They hope to bring home a medal from the Maadi Secondary Schools Rowing Championships.
In only his first year of competitive rowing, Callum Tutbury had an especially impressive row in the U17 single, coming 6th out of 64 rowers.
We ended the regatta with a Bronze medal from Stella Janissen in the U16 Girls single, a field of 52 competitors.
Aoife Taylor then went on to win the B Final of the U17 Girls single coming 9th overall.
Our junior novice girls then won a Silver medal in the U18 Novice coxed quad. In this crew are: Mia Finlayson, Charlize Tutbury, Georgie Gash, Riley Elliot-Lowe and they are coxed by Aine Taylor.
