As you may know, Mr Dalton is in the Netherlands representing New Zealand at the Masters Hockey World Cup.
The tournament got underway last Thursday, with 20 teams competing in his grade. We checked in with him to see how things are going. 🏑 🇳🇱
So far, New Zealand has drawn 2–2 with Argentina and had narrow 2-1 losses to both Ireland and Spain after leading into the fourth quarter in each match – a reminder of the fine margins at this level of international sport.
Reflecting on the tournament so far, Mr Dalton shared:
“We had aspirations to play for a medal, but have already been knocked out of contention, having not played to our potential. There’s a good lesson in there though… Not everything works out the way we hope, no matter how much we want it to or how well we prepare. That’s part of sport—and life. The important thing is how we respond.”
We’re proud to see Mr Dalton representing New Zealand on the world stage and know he’ll be bringing plenty of inspiration back to our students.
