The fantastic Peer Support Grand Finale was a standout event in the Term 1 calendar, bringing together more than 250 Year 7 students and their Year 11 mentors for an unforgettable day of fun and bonding.
Over six weeks, Year 7 students worked closely with their Year 11 Peer Support leaders as part of their transition into Aquinas. The grand finale was a vibrant showcase of the tukana-teina relationship, filled with energy, laughter, and a real sense of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, and kaitiakitanga.
The March finale saw students rotate through fun activities, including the ever-popular slip-n-slide, inflatable orbs, wet sponge fights, water balloon tossing, and giant volleyball. It was a great vibe and wonderful to see fun, spirit, and connection between our youngest students and their mentors.
The event was organised by Mrs Kristen Gilbert, Mr Alan Syme, and Mr Angus Donaldson, with support from staff. A special mention goes to the Year 13 Outdoor Education students, who facilitated the activities as part of their NCEA credits—a real win-win across multiple year levels!
The Peer Support programme plays a huge role in developing a sense of belonging for our new students and setting the culture of our college. Throughout Term 1, they regularly met with their mentors for activities and conversations to build lasting bonds.
