The Aquinas College Year13 Outdoor Education class had a fun trip to Ohope Beach, Whakatane, on the 8th and 9th of April. They undertook tramping, aquatic and coastal survival activities, including building shelters, gathering food, using natural features and resources “to survive” as part of their Level 3 NCEA assessments. It also conveniently happened in one of Te Moana o Toi’s most beautiful elements, the Bay of Plenty coast. The weather was stunning, the water warm, and it was a positive time. Particular highlights were the views on the 8km coastal section of Nga Tapuwae o Toi Trail – Tois Track, from Whakatane town, above Kohi Point and Otarawairere Bay, then Ohope Beach.
Thanks to the adult assistance from volunteer parents Matt Wakelin and Ken Hawkes and Mr Kevin Elder.
