A huge round of applause for Y13 baseballer Liam Olsen! Aged just 17, he is representing NZ in the U23 Junior Diamondblacks’ three-game series against Australia this weekend. The winner of the Tran-Tasman battle secures the Oceania qualifying spot for the 2022 U23 Baseball World Cup in Taiwan this October. So, go Team NZ!
Liam’s NZ selection is a huge achievement for the pitcher. He is one of the youngest players on the NZ side as 17 is the minimum age to qualify. His NZ side takes to the field against Australia in Canberra April 22 to 24. It will be the first international game for the U23 team in two years due to the COVID pandemic.
Liam earned the NZ selection after standout performances for the Waitakere Bears Baseball Club’s U19 and Premier men’s teams. He has traveled to Auckland every week for at least the last two seasons to play.
