T Y9 timetable structure changes slightly this year. Students have chosen three options and they also have three lessons a cycle on Tikanga Māori. The purpose of the course is to teach the practices and values from Te Ao Māori. Some students have also chosen to learn Te Reo Māori. Below is an outline of the programme teachers Whaea Michelle Marston and Matua Tuwharetoa Hapi will be delivering to all Y9 students:But – .
Term 1 – Process of a pōhiri – this will combine with the Y9 retreat days
Term 2 – Ngā atua Māori – introduction to Maori gods
Term 3 – Hītori – Mauao/Hautere/Takitimu/Mataatua – the history of Tauranga Moana
Term 4 – Ngā kemu Māori – Māori pastimes and games
