Over 6000 students from 153 schools across New Zealand participated in the national University of Otago Junior Maths Competition. We are very proud to announce that Lachlan Dillon and Thomas Wilkinson gained Merit certificates (top 15% in NZ) and three students were placed in the top 200; Elise Oxenham, Xavier Barry and Michael Graham.
The competition organisers contacted us to suggest that Elise should try out for the New Zealand Maths Olympiad team which will represent our country in Romania in 2018.
The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students held annually in a different country. The first IMO was held in 1959 in Romania, with 7 countries participating. It has gradually expanded to over 100 countries from 5 continents. The IMO Advisory Board ensures that the competition takes place each year and that each host country observes the regulations and traditions of the IMO. Click here for more information.
Congratulations to all certificate winners.
