The Aquinas College Year 11 Science class, joined by Year 11 Geography students, went on the annual trip to Mt Tarawera on Wednesday.
Students were guided up the volcano and down into the depths of the crater and the cloud coverage added to the eerie feeling of this desolate lunar landscape.
We have studied the volcano in the classroom and our superb Kaitiaki Tour guides linked the history of the area with Māori myths and legends; as well as the massive eruption of Mt Tarawera in 1886. The icing on the cake was the scree run – a few spills and thrills were had by many, which contributed to making it a most excellent day!
