Aquinas College was up against schools from the Bay Of Plenty Region at Primary Schools Surf Competition held at Tay Street on the 31st March 2017
Conditions were perfect with waist to head high clean waves for the students. The sun was out and the waves rolled in consistently until midday when they backed off as the tide went slack.
For the Aquinas Students it was their first comp and they were up against stiff opposition. Several of the surfers from other schools were sponsored and have been on the circuit for a while, we were the outsiders and the underdogs.
All Students were keen to perform well in their four person heats in which they had 15 mins to surf as many as 12 waves. The two best waves were used for their final score with only two from each heat progressing. Our students gave it a 100% and all totalled up a good wave count with some solid performances which allowed them into the finals. All Aquinas team members received an award from the sponsors Backdoor and RPM.
It was a great day the vibe was excellent and there were no recorded sun burn issues.
