The Year 7-10 students at Aquinas College were honoured this morning at 2017 Junior Prize Giving.
The ceremony celebrated the success of students receiving Attitude and Effort Awards, Excellence in 1 subject and Year 9 and 10 students who achieved Merit or Excellence in REACH.
After the entry of the official party, Deacon Vince Shaw opened with a scripture reading from St Paul and a reflection. This reminded everyone that we ‘reap that which we sow’. The award recipients were congratulated on their scholarship throughout the year and for the way they have nurtured the seed of knowledge.
In the Principal’s Address, Mr Ray Scott spoke of the importance of curiosity in learning. He acknowledged the role that teachers play in mentoring and coaching students to succeed, noting that the college aims to grow life long learners who are ready to face both set backs and success with determination and resilience.
The Year 7/8 Attitude and Effort Awards were read by Mr Braid, the Dean of Year 8 and presented by Mr Banbury, Head of Curriculum for Year 7 and 8.
Presentation of Year 9/10 Attitude and Effort Awards and REACH Merit Awards was read by Mr Roberson, the Dean of Year 9. The awards were presented by Mrs Jeftha, Director of Pastoral Care.
Mr Kurt Kennedy, Deputy Principal, read out the recipients of REACH Excellence Awards, while these were given out by Mr Ray Scott, Principal.
After a final blessing and the college prayer, the official party processed out while the students sang the National Anthem.
