Aquinas College cyclist James Johnson has produced a superb ride to win the U17 division of New Zealand premier road race.
The Year 11 student was in sparlking form as he completed the 160km ride in 3:59:42.
Johnson was first in the U17 division and 4th overall in the Classic Event.
For Johnson, being crowned first under-17 rider home and fourth overall in the 160km Around the Lake event was a personal triumph.
“I was pretty happy as I was up against some pretty tough competition and I wanted to win the Mathew Dryden Memorial as my brother Charlie won it the year before,” he said.
The result confirms New Zealand cycling decision to include Johnson in their Under-19 Development programme which is focussed on the Tokyo Olympics.
