Our 25 International Students are enjoying the ‘kiwi’ lifestyle and feeling very much a part of our Aquinas College community. This is a tribute to their class buddies who have made them feel so welcome.
“The students are so kind” reported Lisa Wang, a Yr. 12 Chinese student who has joined us from Bethlehem College this year. “One girl in my class helped me understand my assignment and she didn’t even know me. Now she always smiles and says ‘hi’ when I see her around the school”.
Pictured below is Mizuki and friends at Athletics Day. It was great to see so many students dressed up in their house colours!
Eight members of 10P are looking forward to meeting up with students from Hiroshima Shudo High School next week. The girls are completing a study tour centred on energy and its various forms within New Zealand. They visit includes a day-trip to Huka Falls and the geothermal area around Taupo.
Congratulations to Yr. 11 student Tom Tanaka from Shigakukan High School near Ngoya who completed his first ever Triathlon last weekend. What an amazing achievement Tom! Thanks to his host mum and dad Di and Alan who supported him in this event.
Eight of our new students met Mayor Greg Brownless at the official welcome ceremony hosted by Education Tauranga. They were reminded that Tauranga is now their home.
Rio, Tom and Yuna took part in a physically challenging overnight trip with their Yr. 11 Sports Science class. This involved a hike, climb up the Mount and a kayak across the harbour. What a memorable experience for you all.
Best wishes to Shu, Mizuki and Donna who all celebrated a birthday in March. In early April we will farewell Rio and Ryosuke who are with us for just one term. Safe travels and we will miss you! We will have the chance to say our ‘good-byes’ at our trip on April 2nd to McLaren’s Falls.
Thanks to Yr. 9 student Jessica Shin (and Mrs. Shin) who represented Aquinas College at Tauranga Intermediate. She talked with reporters from Korea about what it is like to attend school in New Zealand.
