Our 28 international students have hit the ground running in 2026, with a memorable welcome to the Bay and a classic Rotorua experience to match.
Last month, students joined others from across the region at the International Students’ Mayoral Welcome, hosted by Mayor Mahe Drysdale and Margaret Murray-Beange at Holy Trinity Church. The event celebrated the diversity and global connections international students bring to our community.
The afternoon featured vibrant cultural performances, including kapa haka and dance, with a special highlight seeing our own Hanami Suzuki (Yr 11) take the stage in a beautiful Japanese cultural performance — a proud Aquinas moment 👏
More recently, the group travelled to Rotorua for a tour of the city and Lakes Tikitapu and Okareka aboard the iconic yellow duck — a fun and uniquely local experience! Back at school, some of our Year 10 science students have also been getting hands-on, dissecting a sheep’s heart in class 🔬
This year, we are proud to welcome students from a range of countries including China, South Korea, Japan, Uruguay, Chile and Vietnam. They enrich our kura with new perspectives, cultures, and global connections.
Students are already embracing life in our rohe, engaging in learning, and building friendships across the school. A special thank you to our homestay whānau for providing such a warm and supportive home away from home.
Nau mai, haere mai — welcome to Aquinas College. We’re so glad you’re here 💚💛
