Health Services

At Aquinas College we aim to provide holistic care for your sons or daughters by making available a health care service that provides access to comprehensive primary medical, social and mental health services, as well as health promotion and education.

The Aquinas College Health Service offers a youth friendly, confidential counselling, medical and physiotherapy service to support all aspects of students’ physical and mental health including;

  • Sick Bay for unwell students, monitored by sound camera
  • First Aid
  • Management of chronic conditions – diabetes, asthma
  • Sports injuries
  • Health promotion and prevention
  • Alcohol and substance abuse /counselling referral
  • Injury prevention
  • Weight management
  • Sexual health
  • Suicide prevention/ counselling referral
  • Physical and emotional support/counselling referral
  • Health promotion and education
  • Resource information
  • Physiotherapy – treatment assessment, advice and prevention
  • Vision screening, scheduled immunisation and the mobile dental service visits the school during the year to provide these services to Yr. 7 and 8 students.

COUNSELLING SERVICE – Mrs Kristen Gilbert

  • No appointment necessary, visit or contact Mrs. Gilbert by calling (07) 543 – 9036.
  • Counselling to students experiencing personal, emotional or social difficulties.
  • Referrals to outside agencies if needed.
  • Provides crisis intervention when needed.
  • Works to strengthen partnerships between home and school.
  • Co-ordinates other programmes such as peer support and leadership training.
  • Class room programmes for self-esteem and resilience.
  • Meetings with the Counselor are FREE.

MEDICAL SERVICE – Mrs Ana McFarlane

  • Medical treatment is conducted onsite by a qualified nurse and doctor (by appointment).
  • To book an appointment  please call extension 241
  • The nurse is available at the school on Tuesday and Thursday from 8.30 am – 1.30 pm.
  • The nurse can book you an appointment with the Doctor who is available at the school every Thursday.
  • Doctor and nurse consultations are FREE.

PHYSIOTHERAPY SERVICE – Bay Physiotherapy

  • Physio treatment is conducted onsite by a qualified Physiotherapist from Bay Physiotherapy Centre.
  • To book an appointment please contact Mrs. Van Kol at the Aquinas College school office on extension 222, book with the school nurse on extension 241 or call Bay Physiotherapy Centre directly on (07) 577 9798.
  • The physio service is available on Tuesday from 11.00 am – 3.00 pm and Friday 12.30 pm – 3.00 pm.
  • Note this service is NOT free – ACC subsidy may apply if your injury was caused by an accident.
