A lucky group of Y11 students recently stepped out of the classroom and into the heart of Mt Tarawera’s infamous volcanic crater. Y11 Science and Y11 Geography students hiked to the summit last month as part of their upcoming internal assessment. Although challenging at times, the crater walk climb was worth the views. The downhill scoria run was a highlight, and sitting in the crater itself an eerie feeling. Mt Tarawera is legendary for its 1886 eruption which destroyed the world-famous Pink and White Terraces. Kaitiaki Tours were superb hosts and our students did Aquinas College proud.
