It has been a busy start to the year for our International Students as they get used to a new school, a new language, new friends and new host families. Everyone is smiling as they quickly adjust to these changes and get focused on study. Mrs. Tanya Gray, our new ESOL Teacher, has begun specialist English language programmes with each student as well as offering support with mainstream classes.
The International Department held an orientation programme for our 18 new students on 30 January. This was a great way to get to know each other and learn about all the different backgrounds student’s have come from. Sorting out timetables, uniforms and a tour of the school was followed by a delicious Japanese lunch at Matakite Restaurant.
New International’s met our returning students at a morning tea on February 4th. We challenged each-other with ‘kiwi’ quiz questions over cake and sausage rolls.
On the 7th of February new families enjoyed the New Families BBQ, complete with games and a sausage sizzle sponsored by the Aquinas College PTA.
Students are looking forward to representing their House at the upcoming athletics sports day on February 22nd, and taking part in the games at the Twilight Festival on March 7th.
