A huge shout out to our Y11 Sports Science students who last month slogged their way through a gruelling 24-hour outdoor epic adventure. Twenty-six students took part in the annual expedition which saw them journey from Papamoa Surf Club to Mauao. It was 12km of hard slog through the sand while also carrying their overnight gear, food and tents. Along the way, the groups were presented with challenges to keep them honest.
Once at the mount they battled furious wind to put up their tents, all without having access to the instructions! Dinner was the next item on the list, with some resorting to the tried-and-tested sausages and bread while others had a three-course degustation meal.
The following morning – after a torrid night of rain and wind – they were sent scurrying up Mauao. The top team completed the up-and-down mission in a mere 34 minutes.
For leg two of the trip, students sea kayaked through the harbour to Memorial park. Here they were reunited with their packs and began the last leg of running/walking back to Aquinas College. A real sense of achievement was felt by all those who completed the mission. Huge mahi team!
