She’s tall, athletic, and can smash and spike with the pros. Ella Akkerman, a Year 13 student at Aquinas College has had outstanding success this season in Beach Volleyball.
Ella has achieved three top-10 placings in the Open Women’s Pro-Tour events (competing against top age groups and senior NZ women’s players); ninth place in the Open NZ National Beach Volleyball Champs (competing against top senior NZ women players); and second place in the NZ Under-19 Beach Volleyball Championships. Phenomenal results for a 17-year old competing against New Zealand’s top women.
Like any top athlete, Ella’s training regime is tough. She works hard to stay injury-free, while focusing on strength and fitness to progress her skills at a high competition level.
Ella is a member of the Student Executive leadership team and is a co-leader, with Josef Schuler, of the Sports Committee.
