New Zealand author Des Hunt visited Aquinas College to share his writing experiences with our Year 10 boys.
10R was lucky to have a visit from New Zealand author, Des Hunt on 15 May. He shared tips about writing and showed us some interesting experiments using his novels and his past experience as a science teacher.
Des Hunt was born in Palmerston North and now lives in the Coromandel. He started off working as a high school chemistry teacher after giving up on his childhood dream of being zoo keeper. He eventually became interested in physics, the field where he made name for himself.
At the age of 65 he decided to make writing his main focus. His first book ‘ The Last Tuatara’ was turned down by publishers 7 times, almost crushing his dreams of being writer. He decided to try one more time and fixed up his book which finally got published and launched his writing career.
I enjoyed his talk, learning about his past and the way he combined his writing with science. Overall 10 R was very impressed with his knowledge o and we all learnt something valuable from his talk.
Reflection by Zane McKay(10R).
