Aquinas College competed in the Chanel Shield competition at St John’s College in Hamilton. The competition is named in honour of the Patron Saint of the Diocese, Peter Chanel, who was a French-born missionary priest who worked in the Pacific region in the 19th century. Chanel Shield is held annually and involves five secondary schools from the Diocese of Hamilton. Campion, St Johns, Sacred Heart, John Paul College, and Aquinas.
The students showcased their talents and connected with other students from across the Hamilton Diocese. We are very blessed to have many students with exceptional gifts and who give much of their time, along with their teachers, to prepare for each event.
Our results were:
Riley Elliott-Lowe – 1st in Junior Oratory
Lucy Maher – 2nd Senior Bible Reading
Gina Knowles – 3rd in Junior Bible Reading
Michael Graham – 3rd in Senior Poetry Reading
India Mahy – 3rd in Junior Poetry Reading
The team also brought home the McAlpine Cup for demonstrating the best spirit throughout the competition. Special thanks to the English Faculty, Mrs Ashton, Mrs Harris, Mr Roberson and Mrs van Zyl for preparing and supporting the students. Their attention to detail and care of the students demonstrates the high level of commitment and care that they have for our students and the Special Character of our College.
