Year 9 Retreat with Year 12 Our Year 9 Retreat and Marae visit took place on Tuesday, 30th of March, and Wednesday, 31st of March, out at Te Puna. The theme for the two days focussed on the idea of being connected: He hononga ki tō tātou hapori (a connection to our community); he hononga ki tō tātou Katorikatanga (a connection to our Catholicism through prayer) and he hononga ki tō tātou taiao (a connection to our environment). The staff and students enjoyed the opportunity to engage in these learning experiences and in the warmth of the hospitality experienced at Potuterangi Marae.
Our Year 12 Youth Ministry students took a lead role in running prayer aspect of the retreat by giving their testimony, running activities, and leading inputs, which reflected on their own living relationship with Christ. These students are growing in their confidence to share their faith with others and are authentically engaging in peer-to-peer ministry.
Year 12 students travelled to Hamilton to visit the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Mosque as part of their Religious Education learning about World Religions. This topic specifically focused on the key belief of life after death in Islam and Catholicism. The students were able to gather valuable insight on the perspective of Islam and the importance of the belief in life after death. Our visit to the Cathedral enabled us to reflect on Catholicism and our view of eternal life. A special discussion point was the resurrection window.
